How's Boston?

Boston is good.

I’ve been here for just over three weeks, but I had to look at a calendar to figure that out. I don’t feel like I’m on vacation, or camping out, or just visiting for a little while; I feel very comfortable here in the city, at my job, and in cohabitation* with Xue. I intend to spend as little time as possible thinking about the day I’ll have to leave.

Though I may feel at home here, I am still reveling in the richness of life in an actual city. There are bike lanes and traffic jams, comic book stores and pastry shops, skylines and city parks. I am spending all of my money** on delicious and often foreign foods. I am surrounded by sounds of traffic.

At work I’m doing a little bit of wrenching and a little bit of figuring. The wrenching is nothing new; fixing flats and overhauling bearings. It’s the figuring that’s really got me excited. My boss is having me design a few products, taking them from concept to working drawings for manufacture. He’s pushing me a bit more towards industrial design instead of straight up engineering, but I can’t complain.

When I came home today Xue presented me with an apple tart from a favorites bakery. I drank a locally made root beer and a Russian(?) pear soda. I had gummibears for dinner and regret it.
